I love color and I am obsessed with this table creation. I created my first ombré table to use as Valentine’s Day Table Decorations.

Isn’t it fun how the colors fade into each other which makes such an incredible statement centerpiece, simply with color? I had this idea to create a Valentine’s Day table for my family. I wanted to use not only ombré flowers but ombré place settings. The more I thought about the idea, the more I thought that it could be amazing and beautiful.

So how did I achieve this ombre look?

I started with the fresh flowers. I then knew the colors of the flowers would dictate which china, chargers, napkins, and glassware I would use.

In case you couldn’t tell, this is by far, hands down, my 100%, favorite table I have ever designed. Ever.

The colors are so much fun and although I have seen an ombré centerpiece, I have never seen an ombré table!

How to Style the Flowers

It all begins with the flowers.

I haven’t been to the Los Angeles Flower Mart in so long! Fresh flowers were a must for this table, so I went to one of my favorite places, the LA Flower Mart. We are so lucky to have a flower mart nearby. Not all cities have a flower mart and Los Angeles is big enough that the mart is open for wholesale business and to the public.

I knew I wanted to style a pink table (I am slightly obsessed with the color pink these days) and found the most amazing flowers in ombré tones from dark pink to blush and white tones.

So I found a few ruby red peonies, large magenta roses and smaller light pink and white tea roses, magenta hyacinth, and old fashioned carnations (more ruffly than regular carnations) in ruby red, light pink, and white. I also found light pink sweet peas, blush and light pink ranunculus, blush hydrangeas, and iceberg roses in my garden.

Once home with my armloads of flowers, I began trimming them, removing leaves and discolored petals. Next, I gathered nine square vases together to place down the middle of our dining room table. I allocated three for each of the color families, dark pink, medium pink, blush, and white flowers.

Here are some of the flowers I bought at the Flower Mart. I decided to arrange them on our kitchen island since I had so many to work with!

I wanted the flowers to be low in the vase so that the centerpiece would be uniform in shape and size down the center of the table, the only variation would be color. To hold the flower heads up above the top of the vase so that they wouldn’t slip down into the bottom of the vase, I built a lattice out of scotch tape, placing strips in each direction.

Creating this lattice makes it easy to build a low-profile arrangement. Once the lattice is in place, start filling the top of the vase.

I started with the darkest color first. I used peonies, old-fashioned carnations, hyacinths, and large magenta roses. Once I had three of the square vases equally filled, I moved on to the medium color pink.

For the three square vases to hold the medium/light-colored pink flowers, I used old-fashioned carnations, light pink tea roses, light pink sweet peas, and light pink ranunculus. For the blush/white flowers, I used white tea roses, blush hydrangeas, and iceberg roses from my garden.

When I lined up the nine flower-filled vases down the middle of the table, I was speechless.

Once the flower colors were set, choosing the china, chargers, and glassware fell into place easily.

It wasn’t hard to create the same ombre effect with the tableware.

This tablescape turned out more amazing than I ever imagined. I am so, so excited to share this with you!
