It is about the health and happiness of people.

Getting started
You have just started the theme Health and welfare.
You will find different things to watch, to listen to, to read and of course to do.
There are videos, recordings, pictures, photos, texts and assignments.
There are different types of assignments. Some of them you have to do on your own, others you are doing in a group.
At the end of those group assignments you are going to discuss the answers in your group. Some assignment will be checked by the computer.
Need to know
Before starting to work your way through this theme, check with a classmate how much you know about health and welfare already.
To do so, do the following exercise on the definitions of 'health' and 'welfare'.
Match the words to the right numbers and write them down.
Health is "a state of complete physical, mental, and social ...1... and not only the absence of ...2..." according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

It is about family, work, school, and friends,

*'Welfare is also the idea that everyone should have a minimal living standard. People who cannot reach this standard will be supported, usually by the state' (‘a welfare state’). In this theme, however, when referring to ‘welfare’ we mean the well-being of people or a group of people.

Project B: Play Doctor
Verdeel de klas in twee groepen: dokters en patiënten.
De dokters downloaden de volgende twee worddocumenten:

Met iedere aandoening (= ailment) bezoeken de patiënten twee dokters.
Ze vragen de dokters een advies en eventueel voorschrift voor een medicijn. Zowel de dokter als de patiënt maken een aantekening van het bezoek op de 'Activity Sheet'.

Situation
Je Engelse penvriending is tijdens haar vakantie in Frankrijk in het ziekenhuis terecht gekomen. Je besluit haar een kaartje te sturen.
Schrijf een kort bericht naar de zieke.
Zorg voor:
- een beterschapswens,
- een tip over wat je goed kunt doen in het ziekenhuis,
- een mooie afsluiting:
zeg dat je hoopt dat jullie elkaar snel weer zullen zien.

Situation
Je familie is verhuisd naar Virginia in Amerika.
Je gaat op zoek naar een nieuwe school. Als je een nieuwe school hebt gevonden, moet je een gezondheidsformulier inuvllen.
