What Are Hocus Pocus Buns?

A Hocus Pocus buns recipe crescent rolls uses marshmallows, cinnamon and sugar, and crescent rolls to make a gooey cinnamon bun. They are also called magic Hocus Pocus rolls or vanishing Halloween buns because the marshmallow magically disappears inside the bun once the rolls are baked in the oven! (The marshmallow melts and is absorbed by the dough, which makes a hollow center inside the bun.)

Bippity Boppity Boo! Vanishing Ghost Rolls for Halloween

If you’re making this recipe for Halloween, you can make it more fun when baking Hocus Pocus buns with kids by doing a little poem or telling them instructions.

The fun of this roll recipe is that you see the marshmallow going into the dough and then Bippity Boppity Boo! the marshmallow disappears when you go to eat the HocusPocus roll!

You can say a Hocus Pocus vanishing rolls story like:

  1. We’re going to make disappearing ghosts. (The marshmallow is the ghost.)
  2. Let’s put the magic disappearing dust on the ghosts (roll the marshmallow in butter and then cinnamon sugar).
  3. The ghost flies into the cave. (Place the marshmallows into the crescent roll dough sheets and fold the dough over.)
  4. Now we have to hide the ghost! (Place in oven.)
  5. When the vanishing rolls come out of the oven, have the kids say a fun magic word over the buns (like Bippity Boppity Boo! or Hocus Pocus!) and then cut open the buns to see that the ghost has magically disappeared! (The marshmallow melts down and there is no trace of it when you cut open the Hocus Pocus bun recipe. Just an empty “cave.”)

I guess it’s not a Halloween poem, but more of a disappearing bun story that I just made up, but you can also call it disappearing witches or even disappearing monster vanishing rolls (draw faces on the marshmallows like this before adding them to the dough for rolls)or whatever you want and come up with your own fun story!

(We’re definitely doing the monster face crescent rolls marshmallow next time!)

What do Hocus Pocus buns taste like?

These tasty Hocus Pocus buns taste like lighter cinnamon rolls! Since they are Hocus Pocus marshmallow buns, the inside is hollow and a little more gooey than cinnamon rolls, but the flavor is very much like cinnamon rolls without icing or cinnamon sticky buns.

(I mean, what could go wrong with yummy croissant marshmallow cinnamon sugar, right?)

If you’ve had monkey bread with marshmallows, it tastes a lot like that, too.

Some people call these Hocus Pocus bread, but they really are lighter and fluffier than breads or biscuits. It’s definitely a marshmallow puff pastry.

Can you make air fryer Hocus Pocus buns?

You can make Hocus Pocus buns in air fryer, but you’ll have to adjust the time based on your specific air fryer oven. Be sure to spray your air fryer basket or cooking sheet with non-stick spray so the buns don’t stick. Give the Hocus Pocus buns air fryer recipe a try, but keep a close eye on them! Air fried cinnamon marshmallow crescent rolls may take a lot less time and get brown on the outside before fulling melting the marshmallow inside.

You can make Hocus Pocus buns recipes with chocolate. Just sprinkle the dough with mini chocolate chips before adding the marshmallows. However, remember the whole fun of the vanishing buns is to have the main roll area empty when you cut into and the magic marshmallows have vanished. Anything that you add to middle of the Hocus Pocus rolls will fill up that area more and may not make it appear empty.

A disappearing marshmallow buns recipe (Hocus Pocus rolls) is better made with crescent rolls than with biscuits. Biscuits are more dense than crescent dough and won’t puff up as much. I’d stick with crescent rolls marshmallows rolls.
